Compliance Officer — Financial Crime in Singapore: the complete guide

Everything below is written for this specific listing — the market it sits in, what the week really looks like, how the pay band works, how to prepare, and where the role leads afterwards.

Why this Compliance Officer — Financial Crime role exists

Atlas Capital Partners is a Finance & Banking company of 1,200 people, founded in 2006 and headquartered in Singapore. Atlas Capital advises institutional investors across APAC on credit, infrastructure and private markets. Around a third of the firm's analysts joined through its structured graduate programme, which rotates across research, risk and portfolio teams over eighteen months. This compliance officer — financial crime vacancy sits in Singapore and is advertised as full-time, hybrid.

Read the responsibilities as a symptom list. "Maintain AML, KYC and sanctions policies and procedures" sitting at the top of a compliance officer — financial crime brief usually means that area is currently being done badly, late, or by someone who should be doing something else. At senior level you will set direction inside your area, mentor others, and be judged as much on the decisions you prevent as the work you produce.

Employers in legal & compliance are hiring for depth over breadth, and Singapore is one of the markets where that demand is concentrated. Singapore sits inside that picture: Singapore is a regional headquarters hub, so many roles carry APAC-wide scope. That makes it an unusually strong career accelerator for mid-level managers.

A week as a Compliance Officer — Financial Crime at Atlas Capital Partners

This is a hybrid role based in Singapore. In practice that usually means two to three anchor days on site for planning, reviews and the conversations that are faster in person, with focused work done wherever you are most effective.

Expect the week to be shaped by 6+ years in financial crime compliance at a licensed institution: it is the thread running through the responsibilities list. Around it sit reviews, handovers and the maintenance work that keeps a finance & banking operation of this size running. Ask in interview how much of the week is genuinely protected for deep work — the honest answer varies a lot between teams.

The measure in year one is influence: whether the standard of compliance officer — financial crime work around you is visibly higher because you arrived. Whatever the plan, the 6+ years in financial crime compliance at a licensed institution expectation is the one that will be reviewed first.

Where the hours go in this Compliance Officer — Financial Crime role

  • Core delivery — maintain aml, kyc and sanctions policies and procedures
  • Applied 6+ years in financial crime compliance at a licensed institution work and problem-solving alongside the wider team
  • Review, handover and coordination with the people who depend on this role
  • Maintenance, fixes and improving what already exists
  • Planning, documentation and keeping current in legal & compliance

What S$120,000 – S$150,000 really means here

The advertised range is S$120,000 – S$150,000, a spread of roughly 25% between floor and ceiling, with a midpoint near SGD 135,000. In most structured pay systems the midpoint represents someone fully performing the role, the floor someone growing into it, and the ceiling a candidate who arrives with directly transferable, hard-to-hire experience — in this case, depth in 6+ years in financial crime compliance at a licensed institution.

Against a national average of S$86,000 across advertised roles in Singapore, this band reads as a Singapore market rate rather than a national one. City comparisons cut both ways: housing and transport in Singapore eat part of the difference, so convert the offer into what is left at the end of the month before you judge it.

Negotiate against the band, not against Atlas Capital Partners. "What would someone at the top of this band be doing that I am not yet doing?" is a stronger opening than a number, and for a compliance officer — financial crime post it often produces a written development plan alongside the offer.

Beyond base pay, always confirm

  • Bonus or commission structure, and whether it is discretionary or formulaic
  • Pension or retirement contribution and the employer match under Singapore rules
  • Health cover, including dependants
  • Paid leave, public holidays and any carry-over policy
  • Equity, if offered — the vesting schedule matters more than the headline value
  • Commuting, parking or transit costs in Singapore

Who gets hired as a Compliance Officer — Financial Crime

By the time Atlas Capital Partners reaches interviews, everyone left can do the job on paper. What decides it is proof: a piece of work you stopped, deferred or simplified, and what it saved. Write it the way you would explain it to a colleague, not the way you would write a personal statement.

Applications that describe duties instead of results rarely reach a second reader. Cut anything from your application that would still be true of a different job.

The requirements list is a wish, not a gate. If 6+ years in financial crime compliance at a licensed institution and working knowledge of MAS notices and guidelines are genuinely yours and the rest are learnable, apply and say so directly in the first line of your cover note. Recruiters respect a candidate who names their own gap before they are asked about it.

Preparing for the Atlas Capital Partners interviews

Rehearse out loud, not in your head. A senior-level compliance officer — financial crime interview in Singapore is largely a test of whether you can explain a decision clearly to someone who was not there.

Research Atlas Capital Partners specifically. Analytical and mentorship-heavy. Juniors present to investment committee within their first year, and the firm runs a formal sponsor system rather than informal mentoring. Then connect it to Singapore — what the local team is likely dealing with day to day matters more than the corporate description.
